Court Confirms Natural Causes of Sinead O’Connor’s Death

In a recent update from the London Inner South Coroner’s Court, it has been confirmed that the acclaimed Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, known for her iconic hit “Nothing Compares 2 u,” passed away from natural causes. The 56-year-old artist was found dead in her London home in July last year, and authorities stated that her death was not deemed suspicious.

The coroner’s court, which had initially announced the possibility of an autopsy, released a statement confirming the cause of death. This proves that Sinead O’Connor’s death was brought on by natural causes. As a result, the coroner’s participation in her death has ended,” the statement said.

The sudden passing of Sinead O’Connor sparked an outpouring of condolences from admirers, singers, and celebrities across the globe, especially in her native Ireland. Hundreds lined the streets of Bray, the town she called home for 15 years, to bid farewell during her funeral procession in August. 

O’Connor, who gained notoriety in the 1990s for defying social conventions, altered the perception of women in music with her shaved head, expressive face, and formless attire. She was both vilified and praised for her bold choices and outspoken political stance against the Catholic Church.

O’Connor kept using her given name at work even after converting to Islam in 2018 and assuming the name Shuhada’ Davitt (later Shuhada’ Sadaqat). Despite her personal struggles, she remained committed to her craft, with plans for a new album, a tour, and a movie based on her autobiography, “Rememberings,” at the time of her passing.

The artist had been candid about her mental health, revealing her struggles with bipolar disorder and thoughts of suicide during an interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2007. O’Connor’s decision to step away from the limelight following the tragic suicide of her son Shane in 2022 added another layer of complexity to her public persona.
