Representatives prepare for a vote on Saturday regarding a $61 billion aid package for Ukraine. This package has faced delays due to opposition from some Republican lawmakers aligned with former President Donald Trump.

President Joe Biden’s administration has emphasised the need to provide Ukraine with more ammunition and military supplies to help defend against Russia’s invasion. Burns stressed that the stakes are now higher than ever, noting that Ukraine’s chances of holding its own through 2024 are entirely possible with additional aid.

“The picture is a lot more dire without supplemental assistance,” Burns stated, underlining the possibility that Ukraine could lose to Russia on the battlefield before the end of the year or find itself in a situation where Putin could force a political settlement. Ukrainian
