IALPA Halt Action Pending Vote on Labour Court’s Pay Proposal
In order to resolve a protracted dispute with Aer Lingus, the Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association (IALPA) has chosen to suggest adopting the Labour Court’s pay proposal. This decision, announced on Wednesday evening, will see pilots suspend their work-to-rule action, which began on June 26, pending the results of a ballot.

IALPA, a branch of the Fórsa trade union, will hold meetings with members before the ballot next week. The planned salary increase was praised as “a significant win for pilots” by Ialpa President Mark Tighe. Aer Lingus welcomed the move, expressing hope that the balloting process will be completed swiftly.
Labour Court’s Pay Proposal Suggests 17.75% Increase for Aer Lingus Pilots
The Labour Court suggested a 17.75% pay increase over several years, addressing the gap between pilots’ demands for a 24% rise and Aer Lingus’ offer of 12.25%. The proposal includes incremental pay rises from January 2023 to July 2026 and a 10% increase in pilots’ overnight allowance now, followed by an additional 5% in October 2025.
Passengers have experienced severe disruptions and hundreds of aircraft cancellations as a result of the labour dispute. The Labour Court emphasised the need for resolution to avoid severe outcomes and criticised both parties for focusing on their differences rather than common ground.
