Chiedozie Ogbene Joins Ipswich Town

Nigerian forward Chiedozie Ogbene has finally sealed a deal to move to newly promoted English Premier League side Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

The 27 year-old Republic of Ireland international footballer, who is widely noted for his speed, flexibility, and rich attacking talent, has entered into a four-year contract with the club. Ogbene’s signing is considered a great arrival in boosting Ipswich Town’s team ahead of the rigorous English Premier league season.

Chiedozie Ogbene, who moved to Luton Town in the summer of last year, has the experience and has nine international caps to his credit and has played in the last season’s English Premier League where he scored four goals in 30 appearances.

For Luton, his performances were synonymous with energy, direct running pattern and versatility within the attacking line. From the above qualities, they have influenced him to become one of the prospects at Ipswich town since the team was promoted to premier league.

In an interview with Town TV, Chiedozie Ogbene said that he was delighted to be part of Ipswich and he anticipates performing at the highest level possible when he joins the team. “I’m very excited and feel lucky to have this opportunity to play in the Premier League again,” he said. “This was something I had to accept with open hands and I am eagerly looking forward to being part of it as soon as possible. ”

The transfer of Ogbene to Ipswich Town has not been very smooth, but he has displayed consistent hard work. He kick started his career in Ireland at Cork City and Limerick where he was seen as a potential winger of the side.

He came to the limelight after stunning displays and he was signed by Brentford in 2018 from Leicester City. While his stay at Brentford would not be considered very successful, Ogbene was able to develop himself, and get the experience for the next big step in his career, which would be Rotherham United.

It was at Rotherham however that Chiedozie Ogbene was really able to come into his own. His high-speed gameplay and six extra minutes of playing time was a boon to the club; he contributed a lot to the club’s promotion.

He was spotted at Rotherham after great displays at Luton Town, the club he joined in 2022 and therefore smoothly transitioned into the Premier League. He served as a winger/wing-back, made goal-scoring opportunities and made himself an indispensable asset in the English top flight.

When asked about the reasons as to why he decided to join Ipswich, Chiedozie Ogbene said that he was impressed by the conversation he had with the manager who assured him that he has the capacity to play for the team in the Premier League. “We have spoken very positively with the manager,” Ogbene said. “To know that someone has faith in me, that I can play professional football at this level again, is something that is very close to my heart and my family. I understand what he expects from me and the position I will occupy and I am going to bring a positive influence to the team as we work our way to our objectives.”

Ogbene will be following the footsteps of few Irish talents in the books of Ipswich Town as he is set to compete with the foxes alongside fellow Irishmen, Sammie Szmodics and Dara O’Shea, the latest addition at the club having moved from Burnley. Their presence at Portman Road will give a solid nucleus of experience of the tough Division to which the team has just won promotion to.

The addition of Chiedozie Ogbene is seen as a statement of intent by Ipswich Town FC as they prepare to compete in the Premier League for the first time in nearly two decades.

The club’s management and its supporters are optimistic that Ogbene’s pace, unpredictability, and goal-scoring orientation will enable it to overcome the rigours of the Premier League and establish itself firmly in this league. For Ipswich Town FC, the signing of Chiedozie Ogbene is timely as the team prepares for the new season.
